Blue cloth boards moderately rubbed and soiled, bottom corners bumped, light wear to fabric at extremities, gilt titling still bright, library sticker on spine. Dust spots to page edges, espec top. Some foxing, espec frontis tissue guard, through the title page, pretty clean thereafter. Library pencil mark on title page and card pocket on rear pastedown. The "correct" history of the 57th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteers, with many photographs of the soldiers. (cfm)
New York:Harper & Brothers, Publishers. 1865. 1st edition. xiii+394pp+2pp ads, Illustrated, with a folding map. Hardcover. Rust/brown boards lightly soiled and shelfworn, with wear and fraying to spine ends and edge points worn to boards. Internally, several previous owners signatures inked to 2nd free end-page, and paper age-toned, with some foxing scattered throughout. The map has been folded badly with edges now worn, and a tear where attached which intrudes into the legend as well as a margin tear along fold which does not intrude onto map. Overall, a good solid copy.
Boston:Lee and Shepard Publishers. 1896. 2nd edition. vii+352pp. Illustrated. Hardcover. Gray decorated boards soiled and shelfworn, with wear along edges; spine ends worn and starting to fray; and edge points gently bumped and worn to boards. Page edges soiled. Internally, decorated endpapers slightly age toned but clean, with a previous owners name penciled to 2nd free endpage, but otherwise, aside from an occasional smudge or bit of foxing scattered throughout, a very good, clean copy. The binding is tight and hinges still intact.

Hardcover, no jacket. 532pp. Ex-lib with sticker to ffep, and card/due date stickers at rear (never withdrawn from library). Very Good condtion. Gray paper covered boards with embossed Historical Society stamp on front. Black buckram spine with gilt titling. Boards lightly shelfworn, with unbumped corners and clean spine. Some dust spotting to page edges. Interior is clean and bright and securely bound. Almost all the pages remain uncut. Both authors gained prominance as historians in later life. "The letters now published present an immediate picture of certain phases of the contest, but drawn by specially competent hands". (cfm)
