Gray cloth boards lightly shelfworn, with some spine darkening. Gilt titling bright. Dust spots to top page edge. Owner name penned to ffep. Otherwise no markings and pretty clean internally, with very occasional light foxing. Securely bound. "...made up my mind to penetrate [Arabia Deserta] and to remain there for some considerable time in order to draw a map as a basis for historical investigations and to study the life of the inhabitants...I tried to to secure the protection of its head chief  and to migrate with him like a member of his family...I was able to realize my intention, and duriing 1908 and 1909 I spent many months in mysterious Arabia Deserta."  Alois Musil (aka the Czech Lawrence of Arabia).   (cfm)

Interior is clean, bright and free of stray markings, save for a previous owner's signature penciled onto the first free end-paper. Otherwise, this is a good, tight copy.

New York:George H Doran Company. (1918). 1st edition. 240pp. Illustrated with a double and a folding map. Hardcover.  Red boards lightly soiled, shelfworn and sun faded. Spine ends worn with some chipping to both ends. Internally, no previous owners marks or signatures. End pages are slightly soiled and age-toned, with overall age toning to paper throughout. Some pages still uncut, but others roughly cut. The double map at the front is in very good condition, with the folding map in rear with tears to margins. The binding is tight and hinges intact. Overall a near very good copy.

Spine slightly browned and dust spots to top page edges. Otherwise a nice clean, tight copy. A record of the explorer's travels through Northern Arabia in 1915.

Light foxing to top left corner of rear pocket map.  No internal markings or foxing.  Clean, square and securely bound.  An excellent copy.  Musil, the "Czech Lawrence of Arabia", describes his travels through the region beginning in 1908. Jacket is well worn and soiled with tears at the extremities and browning of the spine. Orange cloth boards a bit worn at the edges and with age spots. Library sticker on lower spine.Gilt titling to spine still bright. Library stamps and foxing to the preliminaries. Otherwise the interior is clean and unfoxed (exc. pp 35-48 which share a common spot on the page edge).  Fold out map at rear has a few age spots. Slight musty smell.  "Organically linked with the rest of Arab Asia, [Syria and Lebanon] are also connected, by human geography and hstorical tradition with Mediterranean and Christian Europe.  In them the conflict engendered by the impact of Western civilization on Arab society may find its solution."  (cfm)

Maroon cloth boards moderately rubbed; some fading of spine which also shows some water spotting.  Two library plates have been roughly removed from front pastedown, and the underlying paper is torn away a bit. A small bookseller plate remains on rear pastedown. Light foxing to endpapers. Between the endpapers the content is clean and bright; no foxing or markings.  The book is square and the binding is secure.  "Prof. Hell has told the history of Arab civilization in a short compass, with wide-mindedness, sypathy, clearness of vision....it will afford the student of Islamic history a basis for further and extended study".  (cfm)

Light foxing through page 7, then again beginning in the back index.  Rust stains around edges of map pocket in rear.  Otherwise clean with no markings, square and securely bound.  Alois Musil's (the "Czech Lawrence of Arabia") account of his travels through the region in the early 20th century.
