New York:Charles Scribner's Sons. 1899. 1st edition. 291pp. Top edge gilt; other edges untrimmed. In very good condition. Gilt still bright on green boards but with a bit of mottling to the spine and rear board. Internally, a large bookplate is on the inside front board, designed by F.T.Gay for John and Harriet Whitmore and a small booksellers tag on the inside rear board, lower corner. There are several old pencil gouges on the 1st free end-page which indent onto the succeeding page but otherwise, the pages are clean and bright with no other marks or signatures. A very good copy. *Authors 2nd collection of short stories. He won a Pulitzer Prize in drama in 1918 for his play Why Marry.
