The spine ends are chipped with some small tears, both top and bottom. The gilt on covers and spine is still bright. Internally, the end pages are soiled with the top edge of the first free end-page having been torn as in an address removed. There is still a previous owners name on the first free end-page. The hinges are intact and the binding is tight and square, however the binding is cracked at the engraved title page. There is a mild bit of foxing scattered throughout. *This is the 3rd volume in the Boston Book Series containing some 57 items from the most notable authors of the day, including such authors as Wm. H. Prescott, O.W. Holmes, Henry W. Longfellow, Edward Everett, Park Benjamin, Harriet E. Beecher and Nathaniel Hawthorne to name a few. Overall, a very good copy.
