Salem, MA:G. M. Whipple and A. A. Smith. 1861. 450pp. Hardcover. Thin strip of paper with publishers, pasted over old. (Still refers to H.P. Ives on copyright page). Internally, a very good clean copy. The pages are age-toned but clean and there is a jam to the top outer edge of pages 291-313 with some creasing or loss of edges. The binding is tight and hinges intact. Externally, originally brown cloth, blind stamped with gilt to spine is still near very good. There are two large chips (as well as smaller ones), one to each side of the top spine edge, which impacts the SA in the title. There is also minor chiping to the bottom edge and the edge points are worn to boards. Gilt on spine is dulled. Overall, a still near very good, clean copy.
