CAPTAIN BEN'S BOOK, A RECORD OF THE THINGS WHICH HAPPENED TO CAPT. BENJAMIN j. WILLARD, PILOT AND STEVEDORE, DURING SOME SIXTY YEARS ON SEA AND LAND, AS RELATED BY HIMSELF
Portland, ME; Lakeside Press, 1895. First Edition. Hardcover, no dj. 204pp. Illustrated with b/w photos and drawings. In Very Good condition. Blue cloth boards, boldly decorated in gilt on the front and spine, show moderate shelfwear; there is a typed paper title glued to the spine obscuring 50% of the gilt title; all other gilt, especially the bold coat of arms on cover, remains bright; the corners are bumped. Inside there are some faint foxing spots on endpapers; otherwise the interior is clean, unmarked, square and securely bound. A very nice copy. From the preface, in all modesty, "I have been asked many times to tell my story, and have at last concluded to do so. It is the "plain, unvarnished tale" of a man who has passed his life on and along the stormy Atlantic coast, sometime on sea and sometime on shore, and who has met the perils incident to the experience of a sailor and a pilot".
