JOURNAL OF A VOYAGE TO THE NORTHERN WHALE-FISHERY: INCLUDING RESEARCHES AND DISCOVERIES ON THE EASTERN COAST OF WEST GREENLAND, MADE IN THE SUMMER OF 1822, IN THE SHIP BAFFIN OF LIVERPOOL
Edinburgh:Archibald Constable and Co. 1823.1st edition. xliii+472pp, Illustrated with 8 plates as called for, including 2 folding maps and 2 folding plates. Both maps have tears where attached to book with both being repaired on the verso of the map. All plates are in very good, clean condition. Hardcover. Rebound in 3/4 brown leather with marbled boards, green title labels to spine and new endpapers. Marbled boards soiled with something white that has dripped on the book and the lower edge of the front board looks to have an old damp stain. Internally new end-papers have a couple bookseller notes on top outside edge of 1st free flyleaf, and an old inked and quite faded signature and inscription to the top of the title page. Otherwise, aside from some mild age toning scattered throughout, a very good, clean copy. *"In his voyage of 1822 to Greenland, Scoresby surveyed and charted with remarkable accuracy 400 miles of the east coast, between 69° 30' and 72° 30', thus contributing to the first real and important geographic knowledge of East Greenland."...Wikipedia
