A good copy of a later edition of George Sale's translation of the Qur'an. Two volume bound in leather with borders and spine label in gilt. Both bindings show shelf wear and volume two has tears in the leather on the front board. Rear gutters are cracked but attached on both volumes. “Merrell, Binder, London” stamped on verso of first fly leaf and end pages are otherwise free of previous owner’s marks. Pages are clean and bright. All four plates are in fine condition with no tears and minimal age toning. Volume 1 includes three plates: a map of the Arabian peninsula and two genealogical tables of the tribes of Islam. Volume 2 includes a plate showing a schematic of the temple at Mecca along with an illustration of the temple. Binding is tight.
