A very good pocket edition in a full leather binding with tooled borders and tooling on edges. Some scuffing and staining to boards. Title in gilt on spine label. Points are bumped and worn to boards in places. Spine edges are shelf worn. Marbling on edges and pastedowns. Each volume has an illustrated title page and frontispiece. Some soiling to illustrated title pages, otherwise clean and bright. Volume 1 was misbound with the account of the author’s life and the translators note bound before the table of contents. Consequently pagination reads: ix-xvi, iii-viii, xvii-xxiv. Binding is tight and hinges are intact.
