Glenn Curtiss Aero plane in Flight

Circa 1910 photo of Glenn Curtiss Aero plane in flight.  Photo accredited to Boston Photo News Co.  The photo is 4 5/8 by 3 5/8 inches in size.

Glenn Curtiss (1878-1930) was an American aviation pioneer who founded the Curtiss Aero plane and Motor Company.  He was also an early aviator himself and won the Gordon Bennet Trophy in 1909 for the fastest speed of 46.5 mph over a 12.5-mile course.  He was also instrumental in developing naval aviation, when Eugene Ely became the first pilot to take off from a ship in a Curtiss Model D and later became the first to land on a ship in the same model plane.

This photograph is from the personal collection of Adams Claflin, who besides being an early aviation enthusiast, served as the General Manager of both the 1910 and 1911 Harvard-Boston Aero Meets.

The photograph has a small stain on the left edge middle and there is a mark on the right edge middle.  There is minor wear on the edges.  See photograph provided.
