This monograph relates the story of the Westcott family and their maritime interests from small beginnings in the 1870s when John Westcott built up a large fleet of schooners, tugs, barges and smack at his home town of Plymouth which his son, Albert, continued to operate until the 1930s when the shipping business was badly hit by the Great Depression and the vessels had to be disposed of or laid up.
