London: Macmillan and Co.. 1866. First Edition. Hardcover, no jacket. 396pp + 4pp adverts. Eight tinted plates as called for plus color map frontis. Ex library with sticker to spine, bookplate to front pastedown and pouch to rear pastedown; negligible other markings. The boards and spine are very worn, and the biinding is a bit cocked. The interior in contrast is very good,  Unmarked, clean, and unfoxed with secure binding. The plates are all in great shape. Detailed observations of life and politics at the time in Mexico, including the major cities (Puebla, Vera Cruz, Mexico City, Guadalajara, etc) and the environs including hacienda life. (cfm)

Covers soiled, especially around edges on the front cover, and shelfworn with wear to yapped edges, spine strip, and spine ends starting to chip and fray.  Internally clean, free of previous owners marks or signatures. Many pages as yet uncut. The front hinge is cracked with rear intact. A good solid copy.

Covers are age toned, foxed and have some chipping to edges with front cover starting to separate from spine edge. Some paper missing at top/bottom of spine. Neat owner signature/date on ffep. Interior not foxed, some age toning especially towards page edges.  Fold out maps are in near fine condition.  Binding is secure.

Tours:Alfred Mame et Fils. 1867. 12th edition. 288pp. Illustrated. Hardcover. An ex-library copy of the American Antiquarian Society, with their bookplate on the inside front board and call numbers attached to a card affixed to the inside front board. Brown boards with gilt decoration to front board and title in gilt on spine, lightly soiled, rubbed and shelfworn, with bottom edges points worn to boards. Internally, aside from library bookplate/card, decorated end-papers clean with a previous owners name to verso of 1st free end-page, and other than a few spots of foxing, pages clean and bright. The binding is tight and hinges intact. Text in French.

CARTAS DE RELIGIOSOS DE NUEVA ESPANA 1539-1594
Mexico: Antigua Libreria de Andrade y Morales, Sucesores. 1886. First Edition. Ex-library. Leather hardcover boards over what appears to have originally been a softcover book. The leather boards are moderately worn, but the spine is in bad shape, missing about 30% of the leather, boards are attached but a bit wiggly. The front pastedown is damaged where a sticker was apparently removed.  Between the endpapers is the original softcover book, complete with gray front and rear paper covers. All things considered the condition is G, but this embedded original book is in VG shape.  There are two embossed library stamps (original cover, and title page) .  Otherwise it is clean, unmarked, unfoxed, and securely bound. Rarely found first edition of this 16th century religious history. First volume of the 'Nueva Colleccion de Documentos Para la Historia de Mexico".  (cfm)

There is a penned inscription on the ffep. Inside the contents are a bit age toned, but are clean and unmarked. After p340, the pages are uncut. There is no foxing and the binding is secure. Overall a very nice copy but in tired wrappers.  Don Vasco de Quiroga was a 16th Century judge and Catholic bishop in New Spain. (cfm)
